Autumn Term - Sutton in Ashfield
In Understanding the World (Geography), we have been exploring maps and learning more about where we live. We discovered that we live in Sutton-in-Ashfield. We brought in photos of our houses, discussed whether all houses look the same and plotted them on a map.
We have been identifying features of our local environment using both paper maps and interactive maps. The children found out that Sutton has a reservoir, Sutton Lawn, Kings Mill Hospital, shops, houses, and a library. We walked through Sutton and on the journey, we saw many features of our local environment and enjoyed talking about these familiar places.
We also had Councillor Samantha Deakin come into school to talk to us about all the things that the council do, to ensure Sutton is a good place to live.
