Autumn Term - Our Bodies
This week, Reception have been busy learning all about themselves and their senses!
In Understanding the World (Science), we have been naming different body parts. We enjoyed singing Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes, drawing around our friends and labelling different parts of the body. We also discovered that our bodies have five senses and learnt that we see with our eyes, hear with our ears, smell with our nose, taste with our tongue and touch with our hands.
To explore our senses, the children took part in lots of exciting hands-on activities. They used a feely bag to describe different materials, investigated mystery smells, went on a looking and listening walk around our environment, and enjoyed a mini taste test to explore different flavours.
In Expressive Arts and Design (Art), we talked about how everyone looks different and celebrated that it is okay to be unique. Using mirrors, the children carefully observed their features to create self-portraits before having fun making colourful abstract faces inspired by the artist Pablo Picasso.
