We have had a visit from Reverend Julie to talk to us about Harvest Festival, we have made poppy wreaths and took them down to the cenotaph and Councillor Sam Deakin came to talk to us about her work in Sutton and what our local environment has to offer.
Every Wednesday we have an enrichment day with Nursery. Throughout the children's time within EYFS we aim to provide them with as many enrichment opportunities as possible. We hold weekly activities such as cooking, arts and crafts, outdoor learning and library visits. Throughout the year we hope to add much more to our curriculum, ensuring children get a breadth of experiences. These enrichment opportunities may change and are dependent upon the children's interests.
Children in Reception studied numbers 1- 5 throughout the Autumn term. Each number was taught separately and in greater depth. The children explored and studied a variety of different representations for each number. Throughout the term, children had opportunity to recite numbers in order to 5, we used number songs to help support this learning in a more interactive and fun way! We wanted children to be able to use number names accurately in play and know that numbers identify how many objects are in a set. As well as matching numbers to quantity and comparing groups, identifying if they have the same number - more or less. We also looked at subtraction within 5 and number bonds to 5.
Throughout this term, the children also explored shape, space and measure. We can name 2D shapes, make patterns and sequence events in a day.
They studied each of these topics through group led sessions as well as within their play, discovering and having hands on experiences within the provision.
