In Maths during the Autumn term, children will be studying a number of units including place value, addition and subtraction, measure (perimeter) and multiplication and division.
Please support your child with their multiplication facts.
Each child has a login for Times Tables Rock Stars, which is glued into the front of their reading diary. There are 5 different single player games and they can also join in on multiplayer games too. Soundcheck is the game which is most similar to the format of the Multiplication Tables Check (MTC) that the class will sit in June 2023.
Every Year 4 child is required to know their multiplication facts up to 12 x 12 and will need to recall these in under 6 seconds during the test. We will of course be practising in school, but it is best for them to practise little and often.
In English during the Autumn term, our writing will be linked to our Enquiry question, “Do we always appreciate what we have?” which focuses on rivers and geography of the UK.
We will be writing a newspaper report about Sutton Reservoir, a formal letter to Severn Trent Water, writing a setting description based on our key text The Upside Down River: Tomek's Journey and persuasive leaflets.
In Key Stage 2, it is necessary for the children to be joining their handwriting. Their joining must be clear and legible, so they need to feel confident and comfortable with forming their letters.
Children will also be assessed on their spelling. Please see the homework page for the list of Year 3/4 Common Exception Words.
Our Autumn Enquiry question is: Do we always appreciate what we have?
This is a Geography based unit of work focusing on the exploration of geographical features of the UK and the importance of water
