Early Reading Scheme

At Forest Glade, we believe that all children can become successful readers. To help them achieve this, we have invested in a high-quality range of fully decodable phonic reading books. These books range from Lilac to Turquoise, so will mainly be used for children in Reception and Key Stage 1. Key Stage 2 will continue to use the book bands as before.

These books are different to the books children have taken home before as they are closely matched to the phonic ‘code’ they have been learning in class. This will make it easier for your child to apply the skills they have learned in school and, with a bit of practise over the week, enable them to read more fluently.

Children will receive a new book every week for you to read and practise with them at home at least three times. By the end of the week they should be able to read the book more fluently, which will build their confidence and independence. Please make sure your child brings their reading book to school everyday, especially on their allotted day for book changing! We are so lucky to have this full set of special new books in school so we are sure the children will take good care of them.

We have produced a short video for each book band to help you support your child with their reading at home at each stage.
