Autumn Term - Our bodies
This week, we explored the human body by naming different body parts. We enjoyed singing “Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes” to help us remember them. Afterwards, we worked with our friends to draw around each other and labelled the different parts of the body.
In Art, we talked about how everyone looks different and that it is wonderful to be unique. Using mirrors, we studied our own features carefully and created self-portraits. We also had fun making abstract faces in the style of Picasso, experimenting with shapes and colours to show our individuality.
We have also been learning all about the five senses! The children now know that:
👀 We see with our eyes
👂 We hear with our ears
👃 We smell with our nose
👅 We taste with our tongue
🤲 We touch with our hands
To explore these senses, the children took part in lots of fun activities. We:
- Used a feely bag to touch and describe different materials.
- Tried smelling pots to identify different scents.
- Went on a looking and listening walk to notice what we could see and hear in our environment.
- Completed a mini taste test to explore different flavours.
The children really enjoyed investigating and discovering how we use our senses every day!
