Autumn Term - India
Reception continued exploring India and learned more about what people might wear there. We looked closely at some traditional Indian clothes and noticed that they were often very colourful, bright, and sometimes sparkly. The children enjoyed comparing these clothes to the ones we usually wear in England. They talked about the different patterns, the shiny decorations and how the clothes felt. Lots of them were excited to try on the outfits, and we loved twirling, looking at the patterns, and talking about the colours they could see.
They also discovered the celebration called Diwali. They read the story of Rama and Sita and explored different signs of Diwali, such as rangoli patterns, mehndi designs, diva lamps, and fireworks. They then made their own salt dough to create diva lamps and decorated them in bright, vibrant colours.
Reception were very lucky to virtually travel to India! Using VR headsets, they got to immerse themselves in the sights and sounds of a lively Indian street festival. The colours, music, and energy made it feel like they were really there. Such an amazing experience!
