A Message from the CEO

To all our parents and guardians in the Flying High Family,

Can I take this opportunity to thank you all for your continued support for our schools in their attempt to only stay open for the most vulnerable children and for those whose parents are key to keeping the country functioning.

I know this is such an unexpected, unprecedented and uncertain time but I have been amazed by the willingness and commitment you have shown to safeguard all families in your community. You are all doing your part in saving lives.

Can I also take this opportunity to remind you that we all know you are not teachers and so don’t expect you to replace the provision the children would ordinarily get at school but what we would urge you to do is;

  • Work with your child, find out how to support them, guide them to work through their difficulties and celebrate their talents but importantly….have fun with them, learn with them, try not to make activities stressful or negative but enjoy this ‘one off’ time that you will have with them. As mentioned above this is an unprecedented time that will go down in history, we want the children to one day look back on this period and although they will remember this time as tragic and difficult, they will also recollect how fantastic it was to work closely with those who love them and how loved they felt.
  • I’m not going to pretend that there won’t be challenging times and times when you may run out of ideas or patience…but when this time comes….and it will…. Remember that you are creating life memories for your child…memories that will stay with them forever.
  • There are so many things online, so many it may be hard for you to chose the most appropriate. My advice on this is to follow your child’s teacher/school guidance but as a bottom line you can’t go wrong with times tables, basic maths (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division) and reading and comprehension discussions, also try and add creativity or exercise to this where possible.
  • And most importantly try to enjoy the quality time spent with your children

Thank you again for making the phrase ‘we are all in this together’ an absolute fact.

Take care

Chris Wheatley
