Our Year in Pictures
Autumn Term - Week 10
This week in Understanding the World (Geography), we have been learning that different countries eat different foods and we know that food in India can be spicy. We tasted some Indian foods such as onion bhajis, vegetable samosas, poppadoms and mango chutney. We also had a go at making our own chapattis as we have been reading 'Chapatti Moon' in our Literacy sessions.





Autumn Term - Week 9
This week in Understanding the World (RE), we have been learning that different countries have special stories and festivals. We know that Diwali is the festival of light and it is celebrated in India with diva lamps and fireworks. We listened to the story of Rama and Sita and made our own Diva lamps.




Enrichment
This week we have been thinking about all the soldiers who fought for our country. As part of our Enrichment day, we made poopy wreaths and walked to the cenotaph to lay them. We even completed a 2 minute silence at the cenotaph to show our respect to all those who lost their lives.






Autumn Term - Week 8
This week in Understanding the World (Geography), we have been learning about another country in the world. We explored atlases and globe to try and locate India and looked at the flag.




Enrichment
As part of our Enrichment day, we walked to the library to develop of love of reading.
We found out abut all the different books that are at the library, plus all the activities they have on offer.






Autumn Term - Week 7
This week in Understanding the World (Geography), We have looked at different features that we will find in Sutton like schools, shops, Kings Mill Hospital, Sutton Reservoir and Sutton Lawn. We walked in Sutton and on the journey, we saw many features of our local environment like shops, schools and houses.
We also found out that Nottingham is a city and it is near Sutton-In-Ashfield. We have been exploring what is in Nottingham.




Autumn Term - Week 6
This week in Understanding the World (Geography), we have been learning about the country we live in. We found out that we live on Earth and in the United Kingdom. We explored atlases and globe to try and locate the United Kingdom. We also discussed things associated with England.








Autumn Term - Week 5
This week in Understanding the World (History), we’ve been exploring families. We have compared our families to see if they are all the same. We labelled family photos and collected data to show how are families have different members.




Autumn Term - Week 4
In Expressive Arts and Design (Art) we continued to explore everyone having a different appearance. We tried to draw the other half of our bodies thinking about proportion and we have looked at the work of a famous artist called Picasso by making our own funny faces.




Autumn Term - Week 3
This week in Understanding the World (History), we have been learning the year in which we were born. We looked at how we have changed over time, from babies, to toddlers and are now children. We know that birthdays happen every year, that celebrate when we were born and that not everyone was born in the same year.
Also, in Expressive Arts and Design (Art) we discussed not everyone is the same and looked at how everybody looks different to each other. We used mirrors to look carefully at our facial features and had a go at drawing self portraits.




Autumn Term - Week 2
This week in Understanding the World (Science), we learned that we have 5 senses. We see with our eyes, hear with our ears, smell with our nose, taste with our tongue and touch with our hands. We used our sight and hearing senses to go on a listening / looking walk around school. We used our sense of touch to play a feely bag game, where we had to feel different materials without looking, and then we used our sense of smell to smell different scents using smelling pots.
We have also identified some different fruit and vegetables and know they are healthy for our bodies.
We also used of senses of, sight, smell and taste to create a fruit salad, as we know the importance of healthy food choices. We named each piece of fruit and carefully cut them up to make a healthy fruit salad for us to taste.












Autumn Term - Week 1
This week we have been learning what it is like at school. We have been making new friends, exploring our new classroom and learning the values at Forest Glade.
