Welcome
Welcome to Forest Glade Primary School
Welcome to Forest Glade Primary School — a busy, friendly, and thriving school at the heart of the Sutton in Ashfield community. We are dedicated to ensuring that every child reaches their full potential in a safe, nurturing environment where they can flourish academically, socially, and emotionally.
We are proud to be a school of choice locally, offering high-quality education that inspires a love of learning to last a lifetime. At Forest Glade, children are not only learners but leaders of their own journey — encouraged to be curious, resilient, and aspirational citizens who are equipped to understand the world and empowered to change it.
“Forest Glade Primary is an exceptional place for pupils to learn. The school has made substantial progress in developing its work over the last few years. This progress is the result of high-quality leadership and teaching.” – Ofsted, 2025
Our Vision
Inspiring Learners. Empowering Change. Growing Together.
At Forest Glade, we are a community where everyone feels safe and supported.
We give our children the knowledge and skills to understand the world and empower them to change it.
We are good role models who inspire through a love of learning and a motivation to make a positive impact.
Together, we continually strive to remove the barriers to success and fear of failure — developing determined, curious and aspirant citizens who are lifelong learners.
This vision drives all that we do and reflects our belief in every child’s ability to thrive and succeed — with the right support, opportunities, and encouragement.
“High expectations are the cornerstone of the school’s success. Decisions are made in the best interests of pupils. Pupils are keen to learn and are engrossed in their studies.” – Ofsted, 2025
Our Values
Our ethos is built around eight core values, which are woven into all aspects of school life:
- Pride – Encouraging children to take pride in their work, their behaviour, and their achievements.
- Responsibility – Instilling a strong sense of accountability in all aspects of learning and conduct.
- Perseverance – Developing resilience and determination, particularly when facing challenges.
- Enjoyment – Ensuring that learning is meaningful, engaging, and joyful.
- Aspiration – Encouraging children to dream big, set high goals, and strive for excellence.
- Creativity – Promoting imagination, innovation, and problem-solving across the curriculum.
- Kindness – Embedding empathy, respect, and compassion in all relationships.
- Confidence – Building self-belief and the courage to take on new challenges.
“Leaders’ commitment to instilling aspiration, confidence and kindness in pupils are fully realised.” – Ofsted, 2025
These values are not just words — they shape who we are as a school community and guide our everyday practice.
A Supportive and High-Achieving School
Forest Glade is a single-form entry primary school with additional Nursery provision, serving 209 pupils (234 including Nursery). We pride ourselves on being an inclusive, welcoming school where every child is known and valued.
Our pupils achieve highly: in 2022 we placed in the top 1% nationally for Key Stage 2 combined outcomes, and in 2024 we were in the top 2% for Reading, Writing and Maths. These outcomes are a reflection of high expectations, a rigorous and well-sequenced curriculum, and a culture where children believe they can succeed — regardless of background.
“By the end of key stage 2, results across all subjects are well above national averages. Pupils are very well equipped for their learning at secondary school.” – Ofsted, 2025
We serve a wonderfully diverse community, and while some of our families experience significant disadvantage, our pupils thrive thanks to targeted support, enriched opportunities, and an unwavering belief in their potential.
Dedicated Staff, Strong Partnerships
Our talented and passionate staff are committed to providing engaging and memorable learning experiences. We know that great teaching is the most powerful tool in closing gaps and raising aspirations, and we continually invest in high-quality professional development.
“All staff are committed to doing the very best for pupils. The thoughtful passion and positive energy of leaders, teachers and support staff are striking.” – Ofsted, 2025
As part of the Flying High Partnership, we benefit from collaboration, shared innovation, and a clear focus on excellence — all of which directly impact the experiences and outcomes for our children.
“The school’s leadership team are ably supported by leaders from the trust and other partner schools to secure continual improvement.” – Ofsted, 2025
A Curriculum for All
Our forward-thinking curriculum integrates digital technology, real-world learning, and inclusive practice. Our 1:1 iPad initiative from Year 1–6 enhances engagement, independence, and accessibility, while our Early Years provision focuses on outdoor, play-based learning tailored to young children’s development.
“The curriculum is carefully designed to give pupils the very best opportunities and experiences… Pupils love to learn.” – Ofsted, 2025
“Staff use the latest educational research to ensure that every aspect of learning in the early years has purpose. Interactions with children are of the highest quality.” – Ofsted, 2025
To strengthen literacy and numeracy, we use Power Maths and a robust Systematic Synthetic Phonics approach. These, alongside curriculum adaptations for pupils with SEND, support every learner in developing strong foundations.
“The teaching of early reading is a key strength of the school… Pupils become fluent readers through key stages 1 and 2 and speak enthusiastically about the books that they read.” – Ofsted, 2025
“Staff provide effective support to all pupils. The school has designed an impressive range of programmes to help pupils thrive, both academically and socially.” – Ofsted, 2025
A Culture of Character and Community
We believe that education is about developing the whole child. Our pupils have access to a wide range of enrichment activities including sport, the arts, and leadership roles such as Pupil Parliament and Play Leaders.
“Older pupils particularly value opportunities to have leadership roles… These roles help to build pupils’ character and resilience.” – Ofsted, 2025
Our community ethos is underpinned by service and social responsibility. Children engage in projects that make a difference — from food bank collections and intergenerational work to environmental initiatives.
We have high behaviour expectations rooted in restorative practice and positive reinforcement. With no suspensions in over 13 years, Forest Glade is a calm, respectful place where children feel safe and supported.
“Pupils and staff have respectful relationships. As a result, pupils’ behaviour is exceptional… Pupils are proud of their very positive behaviour.” – Ofsted, 2025
“Pupils are happy and safe. They adore their school.” – Ofsted, 2025
Wellbeing is a top priority, with a strong safeguarding team, trained Mental Health Lead, and a dedicated Emotional Literacy Support Assistant (ELSA) supporting pupils and families.
I am incredibly proud to be Headteacher of such a vibrant, inclusive and aspirational school. Forest Glade is a place where children are inspired to learn, empowered to grow, and supported every step of the way.
“The school ‘flies high’ and has much exemplary practice to share with others.” – Ofsted, 2025
